Does Puerto Rico have true all-inclusive resorts?

There are no true all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Rico like those that can be found in the rest of the Caribbean and Mexico. Some of the Puerto Rico resorts offer packages that include breakfast and activities, but you will not find a resort that includes everything you find at an all-inclusive hotel.

However, many of the beach resort properties have several on-site restaurants, multiple pools, and spas, making it feel like an all-inclusive experience.

What part of Puerto Rico is best for families?

The majority of people traveling to Puerto Rico will stay in San Juan, and the surrounding areas of Isla Verde and Condado. These destinations offer easy access to most of thefamily-friendly activities in Puerto Rico.

Other areas that families will enjoy include: Rio Grande, Dorado, Luquillo, Fajardo, Ponce, Rincón, Culebra, and Vieques.

An added bonus is the Stellaris casino with slot machines and table games. Note: the casino is separate from the rest of the property so families won’t even see it unless they go looking for it.

Families can book either a city-view or ocean-view room, and all rooms have a private balcony. Ask for a room on a higher floor so your view isn’t blocked by palm trees.

There are five restaurants on-site, a grab and go café, and two bars (one inside, the other poolside). If you don’t want to eat on property, there are plenty of restaurants in the surrounding area.

Puerto Rico Family Resorts Outside of the San Juan area

If you are looking to visit Puerto Rico and avoid any of the heavily touristed areas, you’ll want to explore outside of San Juan and the beaches along the north and north east coast.

We recommend renting a car so you can have a better experience, and see everything the Island of Enchantment has to offer.

Puerto Rico Beach Hotels in Isabela

Family friendly hotels near Ponce

There are a couple properties we recommend along the southern coast of Puerto Rico, near Ponce, the second largest city in Puerto Rico. These are anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours from the San Juan airport. There is a small airport in Ponce, and some carriers fly direct from the United States.

Book Your Flights

You can find discounted fares using sites like Momondo or Skyscanner. If you want to keep an eye on discount fares, we suggest signing up for Going, a daily newsletter with flight sales around the world.

If you travel frequently, consider investing in a Priority Pass for airport lounge access. It’s nice to have a space where you can relax before your flight.

Book Your Accommodation

We regularly use Expedia.com and Hotels.com to find lodging when we travel. It’s a great way to compare vacation rentals, hotels, and resorts.

If your family knows they want to stay in a vacation rental, we recommend looking at VRBO and Plum Guide.

Book Your Transportation

For rental car agencies, try Rentalcars.com. We tend to use Hertz simply for the quality of service.

Book Your Tours and Travel Photos

We regularly used companies like Viator and GetYourGuide to book tours when we travel. Both have great communication and a large variety of activities that work for all ages.

If you’re visiting a city with multiple attractions, be sure to check out a discount pass, such as CityPASS or Go City. Both are worthwhile investments.

Context Travel is another option and they offer more educational-based activities. The former teacher in me loves their tours.

One of our favorite things to do annually is taking photos with Flytographer. They have photographers around the world and we’ve used them on four separate occasions. This is our favorite travel souvenir.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

With the state of travel these days, it’s important to have some type of travel insurance to cover any unforeseen accidents, illnesses, threats, or cancellations. We always travel with insurance and would recommend SquareMouth, Travelex, or Medjet as good options. And if you want to compare different insurance options, use Travel Insurance Master to find the best policy for your group.
