A company in Japan has made the bold move to give all non smokers in theircompany 6 days of extra holidaycompared to their smoking colleges.Many ex-smokers might not want to admit it, but there are a few things we all miss about smoking. Definitely not the health issues like cancer or the waste of money, but going for a smoking break is normally one of them.
As a vaper with an E-Cigarette or Vape Starter Kit you can use you e-cigarette almost anywhere, including the office, and as NHS says the vapour doesn't hurting anyone you don't need to worry about going outside.
But this also means that as a ex-smokerwe notice when people go for smoking breaks, because that used to be us.
HOW MUCH EXTRA TIME OFF DOES A SMOKER GET
As a smoker you may not realise it, but all those small smoke breaks start to add up.
Even if the outside is freezing, that extra time offcan make the non-smokers envious. After all it seems that smokers are given more time off then their healthier co-workers. Morale of an office can really take a plummet, after all a smoker gets about40 minutes extraoff each day!
To put that into a bit more perspective, That is over 3 hours a week a smoker has off.
CAN NON-SMOKERS GET MORE TIME OFF
As non-smokers now this probably seems unfair, after all you are getting paid the same as the smoker but have to do 3 hours more work then them. That just doesn't seem fair.
For this Japanese company they didn't think so either, and as they were on the 29th floor the average smoking break was about 15 minutes. And you can bet they took at least 4 a day.
For the otherworkers at Piala Inc they had to work an hour more then the smokers, at least!
To make up for this they implemented a new policy, if you could prove that you are a non-smoker then you would get 6 more paid holiday days.
This seems like a great idea all round then, not only does it stop smoking being seen as a positive, but it gives smokers an incentive to quit.
DOES SMOKING AFFECT YOUR CAREER
But smoking breaks though aren't just bad for the office morale, but for everyone. In 2014 it was worked out that smoking breaks cost the UK economy £12.6 billion a year.
It isn't surprising then that companies are looking to get their employees off the tobacco as they are costing them money. And it's not just the lost time from smoke breaks, smokers also take more sick days as well.
A recent study in the British Medical Journal studied the link between smoking and sick days and found that on average a smoker will take 10 extra days then their non-smoker colleagues.
Employers then aren't as interested in smokers, and according to a new study published inJAMA Internal Medicine, a smoker was 24% less likely to find a job compared to a non-smoker.
DOES VAPING AFFECT YOUR CAREER
Smoking then is not only will taken on average a decade of your life, but will stop you getting the job you want as well. That's why it is so important to get away from the tobacco so that you can be healthier and happier.
Vaping on the other hand doesn't have the same negative impacts like smoking does, so you can still get that job you want (while getting the nicotine you need at the same time)!
